Water Relief
The Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) said:
"Whoever digs a well, they will receive reward from Allah (swt), on the Day of Judgement, when anyone among Jinn, men and birds drink from it." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)
Water is one of the most important sources of life. However, over 1 billion people do not have access to safe and clean drinking water. A further 2 billion people do not have access to basic sanitation. In addition, many people have to travel miles, by foot, in order to access water and this can often be water that is contaminated.
Water is not just a drink. It is also used in food preparation, used to help grow crops and plants and used to prevent diseases from spreading. Therefore, it is important for people to have access to clean water. If the water supply is dirty and contaminated, diseases can spread very quickly and this could prove fatal.
FI'SABIL'ILLAH UK believes it is important to try and help as many communities as possible gain access to safe and clean water. It is hard to believe that more often than not, the safe and clean water a developing community desperately needs is right underneath them.
FI'SABIL'ILLAH UK will work with its partners to identify areas and communities in desperate need of access to safe and clean water. We will then look to provide the most appropriate solution based on the circumstances.
Water relief can come in different forms including:
Tube Wells
Tube Wells provide access to safe and clean water for a small number of families. They are normally manually operated and can access water some 30 metres below the ground. Tube Wells normally last around 10 years.
Water Wells
Water Wells provide access to safe and clean water for hundreds of families. These wells have mechanical hand pumps and can access water some 40 metres below the ground. Water Wells are ideal for areas that are reliant on agriculture and farming.
Community Wells
Community Wells provide access to safe and clean water for thousands of families. These wells have mechanical hand pumps and can access water some 50 or more metres below the ground. Community Wells would normally be located in areas where water is scarce.
Wells can take anything between 6-12 months to complete. This is to ensure that any site is thoroughly inspected and chemically tested for water purity, and planning permission is sought from local authorities, after which the building process can begin.
